I have completely fallen off the blog-writing band wagon, but now with warmer weather and races right around the corner, I thought I would get back into it.
Last fall I decided to take the plunge and sign up for my second full Ironman. I had been anxiously awaiting to do another full since IM Chattanooga; so, when the chance to since up for IM Mt Tremblant 2018 arose, I couldn't resist.
I mean, who wouldn't want to race here? It is absolutely gorgeous!
I have decided to work with a coach this year and I must admit, the coaching has been invaluable! I had been hesitant due to the cost (races, bikes, shoes...it all adds up), but it has been 100% worth it. I absolutely love having my weeks planned out for me and I enjoy completing my structured workouts.
The first few months of training were a little shaky; I had a few too many weeks that looked kind of like this: (I think that is 4 total workouts actually completed...)
My successful streak included a sprained ankle during a trail run, a concussion from a bike fall, and a strained hamstring after running in the snow.
HOWEVER, with a less than ideal start, things have started to turn the corner. Cold bike rides, long trainer rides, and lots of hotel treadmill runs are finally starting to pay off. My training peaks has a lot more "green" and my fitness curve once again has a positive slope. Furthermore, I can now keep up with the "fast" biking group, I no longer feel like I am drowning during masters swim practice, and I can finally run pain free for over 6 miles.
I am sure the next few months will continue to have its ups and downs, but I am excited to continue building up to IMMT.
